Pleasanton, TX., January 31st, 2025 Finally….
After getting postponed in December, and then had to adjust days/times for weather it was time to kick off the $10,000 to IMCA Modified Texas Showdown sponsored by Comanche Concrete. Drivers looking for a break from winter from northern areas, and some from east coast joined the group of STIMS(South Texas IMCA Modified Series) regulars for the biggest paying event in south Texas.— with Izac Mallicoat and 2 others at I-37 Speedway.
Along with the IMCA Modifieds, the Limited Modifieds were running for $6,500 to win. Factory Stocks were looking for a $1,000 to win, running full shows both days. The Fireballs will be included on the Saturday night show.
Friday practice gave everyone the chance to get some laps, some of whom have never seen the track. The track put up some addition money for fastest times in practice, $200 to fastest in IMCA Modifieds, Limited Modifieds and Factory Stocks, $100 second fastest, $50 third fastest, Long haul award $100. Early registration in IMCA Modifieds and Limited Modifieds; $200 and a bonus “mystery” category of $200 at Sundays drivers meeting.
After starting out a slippery the track surface began to transition. At about an hour and a half into the session the track got better and better. By the two hour mark it was hammer down, the fastest I've ever seen it in all my years of covering shows on the ¼ mile, semi-banked, clay oval. Scary Fast!!!
It's not unusual to see IMCA Modifieds carry the left front, and on occasion the Factory Stocks. I can't ever recall seeing Limited Modifieds three-wheeling through the corners consistently.
Fast times IMCA Modifieds; Izac Mallicoat 15.274, Dean Abbey 15.285, Logan Dinsmore 15.320
Fast times Limited Modifieds; Jason Downey 15.411, Cody Smith15.652, Adam Schach 15.785
Fast times Factory Stocks; Dalton Faulkner 17.120, Rusty Head 17.499, Johnny Brown 17.854
Racing continues Saturday with heats and qualifiers for IMCA Modifieds and Limited Modifieds that will lock in a handful of drivers going to Sunday's $10,000 and $6,500 A-mains(respectively).
Factory Stocks and Fireballs will both run a complete show of heats and feature. Followed by a Sunday after finale to hand out the big bucks in the big A-main events on Sunday afternoon starting at 1:00pm.
