Pleasanton, TX.,(Sept. 20Th, 2025) Another hot time in P-town tonight….
If you were a Modified fan, Saturday night I-37 Speedway was the place to be. Three different divisions of Modifieds were on hand, IMCA Modifieds, Limited Modifieds and E-Mods. Also schedule was a grudge match of sorts between the Factory Stocks and Fireballs combined, Fire Stocks if you will, with each running their own rules. While the Fireballs may have a bit more, motor-wise, their 6600 chip rule could be the equalizer. OK, Factory Balls.
All three Modifieds would race for $1,000 to win. In IMCA Modifieds many of the STIMS regulars were in attendance, plus a few new drivers who had another race in Waco get cancelled. Several new drivers made their way over in the Limited Modifieds with a chance to pick up a cool grand. The E-mods were running under their own little “turf war” championship.
Even with fall on the horizon it was another scorcher at the track with temperatures again around the 100* mark and hardly a breeze in the air.
***No points except for E-mods Turf War Championship
Dinsmore Dialed In for Modified Dollars.
As the $1,000 to win IMCA Modified main fired off Cody Leonard and Logan Dinsmore, two I-Racing buddies, stayed side by side into turn 1. Dinsmore slipped high in turn 2 leaving him three wide, but a debris caution brought about a complete restart. On the second start Dinsmore was able to get into turn 1 first ahead of Leonard, Johnny Torres, Colin Carroll, and Steve Whiteaker jr.
J. Torres and Leonard then ran wheel to wheel for second while Cameron Dinsmore, Marcus Mikulencak and Ryan Doyon were three wide for sixth. Whiteaker and Carroll got slightly hooked before separating, but loosing some ground. Mikulencak clipped an infield tire on lap 4 breaking the steering, coming back across track and stacking up the pack with Whiteaker taking enough damage to end his night.
Leonard tried the high side on the restart getting alongside L. Dinsmore for the lead. The duo slugged it out for a couple laps until Leonard broke a brake bracket that cut the brake line sending him high off turn 4 for a lap 6 caution. Back under green, Carroll got by J. Torres for second followed by Doyon to third. Just before halfway, Allen Torres had driveshaft issues sending him over the turn 4 hill for a yellow.
On the restart coming to halfway it was L. Dinsmore, Carroll, Doyon, J. Torres and Ryan Slott. Carroll began trying the high line while J. Torres retook third from Doyon. By lap 15 L. Dinsmore, still using the bottom, had started to inch away from Carroll as everyone was now trying the high line. L. Dinsmore crept away to a half straight advantage while Doyon and J. Torres swapped third.
Carroll was unable to use the top to chase down the STIMS Champion L. Dinsmore(Kerrville) in the final laps leaving him unchallenged to take his third I-37 Speedway IMCA Modified win in the Sundowner Performance Diesel, Royals Automotive, Carquest of Kerrville, Swenson Racing Shocks, Lowery Plumbing, KEVCO Drive Shafts, Releaf for Troops, OnDemand Shirts, Jimmy's Towing, Rush Gear by Austin Witt, Wehrs, Peak Decals, Klein crate powered IRP Chassis.
“Fortunately we're pretty fast in the 'cowboy up' stuff,” said Dinsmore. “I've been wanting something more like dry, technical tracks. We've only seen a little of that. But when we get on the 'cowboy up' stuff I guess I get upon the wheel more. I seem to like it a little more.”
“On that first start I knew there was moisture where Cody(Leonard) was starting. The track hadn't changed much from the heat and I knew the bottom would be good. I went in there and tried to slide up to the moisture up there, but it didn't work out. On the second start I knew I had to stay close to the bottom. I made it so Cody couldn't open up his entry so he'd have to be perfect. He and I are good friends and I trusted him. I feel bad about it, but I did to do what I had to do.”
“He was absolutely ripping the high side there trying to run me down and I saw his nose. I didn't know that he broke or I would have moved up. It was getting pretty violent on the bottom and the top was better. I just couldn't make myself change lines though. I was afraid to move since I couldn't hear anybody coming. After that first turn thing I just didn't feel good running up there. It was hard to be perfect through the holes, but we made it work.”
“I thought Cody was still behind most of the race then I heard a loud motor on one of the restarts. I know Colin(Carroll) has got a Mullins open motor and those are good on this stuff. I just stayed committed to the bottom. Colin is coming into his own. He's young and has some stuff to learn. He's going to be fast.”

Beaver Bags Limited Mod Bucks
The start of the 20-lapped for the Limited Modifieds saw Trent Beaver get to turn 1 first trailed by James Cole, Steven Whiteaker III, Charles Flanagan and Tanner Whitmire. Beaver wasted little time building a gap to Cole with Flanagan taking third from Whiteaker. A debris caution slowed the pace early. Back under green Flanagan took second after Cole got loose in turn 1 giving up more spots to Whiteaker and Robert Wiggins.
By lap 5 Beaver had motored away to a full straightaway lead over Flanagan and Whiteaker. Cole began regaining lost spots getting fourth back from Wiggins. At the midway point it was Beaver, with a half track lead, Flanagan, Whiteaker, Cole and Wiggins. Contact between two young guns, Whiteaker and Flanagan, sent Flanagan around and Whiteaker to the tail. Once back to green, Beaver got a good jump leaving Cole and Flanagan side by side for second.
Cole was able to take the spot, but Flanagan tried to fight back on the high side. The second place battle gave Beaver the opportunity to rebuild a good margin while Whitmire moved in to challenge Flanagan for third. As the white flag waved, Beaver(China Grove) again had pulled away to half straightaway lead going on to take the checkers in his Beaver Air Conditioning, Beaver Medical Group, Auburn Custom Homes, La Vernia Mini Storage, La Vernia Bear Wash, CPD Racing Shocks, Rush Race Gear by Austin Witt, Best Race Engines, IRP Chassis.
“I wouldn't say that I whooped on them,” replied Beaver. “But we had a pretty good car. We changed a couple things and found something. (Steve) Whiteaker gave us some shocks to try on the right front. We hit the set up pretty good in the heat race. With these Sport Mods you can really drive it in deep and get the car turned. We hit the set up pretty good.”
“In the feature it slicked off going into (turn) 1. It wasn't like the heat race. I had to baby it going into (turn) 1. It was really 'cowboy up' in (turns) 3-4. It was good, but we've got a bit to work on. We've got a pretty good baseline here.”
“We've got a couple big shows coming. We really want to win the one In Corpus, Edna and Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. If we could get one done, that would be pretty cool. We're going to have to change the rear gear for TMS and just go with the baseline. We'll go up Thursday for practice and see if we can dial it in from there. I've never run a track that big before. It's going to be a change. We'll see what happens.”

More Money for Moore
A field of sixteen E-mods took the green for their 20-lap feature with Daniel Preston getting the lead off turn 2. Cameron Schmidt, Zachary Calhoun, Brianna Witzsche and David Moore filled the top five. As Preston started to ease away, Calhoun was challenging Schmidt for second while Moore and Mickey Helms got past Witzsche. Schmidt would spin from second on lap 7 bringing out a caution.
On the restart, Moore got by Calhoun for second with Parker Titzman taking fourth from Witzsche. At the crossed flags it was Preston, Moore, Calhoun, Titzman and Helms in the top five. Coming up on slower traffic, Preston got into the back of Scott Stutes sending them both around on the front stretch for a lap 13 caution. Preston was sent to the tail, while Stutes ended his night.
With Moore now on point, the green waved again until Sommer Nave and Ryker Hernandez tangled with Hernandez spinning for a caution. Now with a single file restart, Calhoun gave Moore a look for the lead as the top three gapped the battle for fourth through sixth. Titzman was able to work his way by Calhoun for second with Helms slipping up giving up spots to Tripp Whitmire and Kyle Jackson.
A late race spin by Karsen Scheffield set up a green, white, checker finish that saw Titzman try to get under Moore off turn 2. The (E-Mod)rookie, Moore(Corpus Christi), was able to hold him off to score his first I-37 Speedway win in the Troy Motorsports, Marcus Auto Repair, First Class Towing, T2 Aeronautical Services, 6” Bodies, 91 Specialties, crate powered 2019 IRP Chassis.
“This is my first year in E-mods,” exclaimed Moore who raced asphalt at CC. Speedway for years in several classes. “This is my first time to this track. I really had no plan at all. I didn't think it would go as good as it did.”
“We left the car exactly the same from the heat to the feature. We didn't touch a thing. I wasn't sure what to do and being my first time here I don't know how the track changes. It felt decent in the heat race, so I left it as is.”
“I really wasn't that worried about the lead until I saw Parker's(Titzman) nose. Once I saw him I knew something had to change because he was catching me. Those kids of the Mikulencaks are good. Everyone says this is a kids class. Ha, those kids are good!”
“I normally run Corpus or Texana. Texana I'm no good at, Corpus is my home track and I'm decent there. I'm Team South Texas Race Ranch in the E-Mod series, though it's my first race in the series. I'll probably run the DTK race here and the Shootout in Corpus.”

Lyons Roars to Victory
Dustin Hurley got a good jump as the green waved for the 20-lap Factory Balls feature leading into turn 1. Albert Medellin, Brian Harbison, David Pesek and Danny Dear sorted out behind Hurley. Medellin began pressuring Hurley with the occasional bumper tap while Mike Lyon moved to challenge Pesek for fourth. Yellow waved on lap 5 when DJ Schroat and Zack Dodson tangled collecting Howie Marcx.
As Hurley got away on green, Medellin and Harbison were door to door for second. Harbison used the top get around Medellin who then lost third to Lyon. Harbison pulled off from second opening the door for Lyon to close on Hurley for the lead with Michael Keylich moving into the top five. At halfway it was Hurley, Lyon, Keylich, Dodson and Schroat in the top five.
Lyons began looking low off turn 4 after a little bumper tag with Hurley entering turn 3. As the laps wound down Lyon kept the pressure on trying to find a way past Hurley. On lap 16, Lyon changed his line moving to the middle lane in turns 3-4. The higher proved better as Lyon was able to work his way past Hurley to the lead on lap 18. From there, Lyon(San Antonio), a former Street Stock Champion went on to win his first race in six years in the Flyin' Lyon Racing, Diffs by Dale, Nogalitos Gear, Mission Race Engines, Wild Child Chassis.
“I'm guessing it's been since 2019-20 since my last win here,” recalled Lyon. “I just want to say thank you to all the guys at I-37, Dale, Steve Smith, Tom Hamilton and all the guys that have stuck with me. It's been a long time coming. It was a hard race.”
“My strategy was put the bumper on him a little and see if I could make my way by. If not, do the best I can and drive to the outside. That's what I did, and it stuck. It was a great race. Everyone raced hard in the Fireball/Factory Stock thing. Hope they don't do many more of these though. But I'll take this one.”
“You have to try something now and then to find another groove and get your car better. Tonight I put a couple different things on it. Not to give away what I did, I made some changes. It worked, so I'll take it. This old Wild Child Chassis has been around and it's still working good. I usually try to make some of the big year-end shows. If I can I will. Hopefully get another victory.”
